Greatsword

"The Greatsword is as balanced as a Two-handed sword can be, the Greatsword offers huge power and reach with only minor setbacks in speed."[1]

It is the signature weapon of the Vanguard, and one of the most popular weapons used in the game. The Greatsword's reputation is not unfounded: it holds an excellent balance of speed, power, and reach that makes it easy to use and a favorite for veterans and beginners alike.

Like most swords, The Greatsword is capable of swing damage through the horizontal and overhead slashes, and pierce damage with its stab. It is highly recommended to land at least one stab when fighting knights as they have high swing resistance.

Unlike the Vanguard's Polearms, the Greatsword (and all their 2 handed swords) have a wide horizontal-swing sprint attack instead of the usual stab. This can often lead to instant beheadings if it contacts your foe's neck, and can result in substantial damage on any other part of the body. However, it has a big windup, so it's somewhat recommended to swing earlier rather than later.

Trivia

According to the Chivalry website's arsenal, the Man-At-Arm's Hatchet shares the same attack stat as the Greatsword, at 60%. While both hit hard, this isn't completely true in practice due to patches.
